About ten years ago I lived in Baltic Street in Newtown, which is just on the other side of the railway line from where I took the photo below. I would often walk through this heritage listed underpass on the way to Enmore Road and back.
At the time it was absolutely chockas with graffiti. The grungy inner urban vibe was strong and I saw student film-makers working there on more than one occasion. It's been completely cleaned up since, with a nice new paint job. Doubt it will be the backdrop for any more angst-ridden movie scenes but it remains a unique and evocative little landmark that everyone in the area knows well. |
