This heritage listed sandstone obelisk on the edge of Hyde Park in the Sydney CBD was modeled on Cleopatra's Needle in London. It was originally built as a sewer vent and unveiled in 1857 by Lord Mayor George Thornton. It's been humorously known as "Thornton's Scent Bottle" ever since.
